I was born and raised in Brenham, Texas, a small town between Houston and Austin. Growing up in a small town was great. I honestly loved living there and cherished the relationships I was able to form with many of my teachers, both in the classroom and in the community for years after. I strive to get to know my students personally and create meaningful bonds like I had with my teachers.
I decided I wanted to be a teacher in fifth grade and never had a second thought. In high school I was even able to take a class that allowed for classroom observation and teaching of mini-lessons. I graduated from Brenham High School in 2002 and moved to Austin to attend the only university I have ever really known, The University of Texas. After graduating in 2006 with a degree in Applied Learning and Development and Kinesiology, I began my teaching career at Old Town Elementary in Round Rock ISD. Since then, I have continued teaching in RRISD, moving to Bluebonnet and then opening Sommer in 2008. I have taught Kindergarten for 8 years and am starting my 5th year of 2nd grade this year.
I have a yellow lab, Avery, who will be 10 in December. She loves to play ball and fills my evenings with love. My parents both work for Blue Bell Creameries in Brenham and my younger brother, Derek, is an engineer in San Antonio. He and his wife Hailey married this past July. You would be hard pressed to find a bigger Longhorn fan and I love attending football games, both home and away. My spare time is usually spent watching or playing sports, soccer is my favorite to play, scrapbooking, or hanging with friends. I also absolutely love to travel and am blessed to have traveled to 21 countries and 34 states. Below you will find some pictures of my family and some of our travels.
